Jeff Hunt’s supporters were expecting big things from him at the NSW Short Course Cross Country Championship at Rydalmere on Saturday and he didn’t let them down.
They got there early and sprayed his name and the Olympic rings on the Upjohn Park grass as a tribute to his selection to represent Australia at the 2012 Olympics.
In his last race before leaving for London, Hunt (Randwick Botany) crushed his opposition and completed the Cross Country Championship-Short Course double.
Hunt covered the 7.5km course in 23 minutes and five seconds, 30 second ahead of his Randwick Botany clubmate Jeremy Roff.
Third was Sydney Uni’s James Nipperess (23:47) with Russell Dessaix-Chin fourth (24:02).
“The race did not play out as I had expected,’’ Hunt said. “It was surprising that the field let me get away so easily, even so early in the race.
