IT took a few days, but Jeff Hunt’s cheeks are back in place after some furious grinning from ear to ear when he was added to the Australian Olympic team last Wednesday.
The marathon runner, who grew up at Minto, will join Martin Dent and Michael Shelley in Australia’s assault on the 42km race in London.
Qualification for the event became an Olympian effort in itself when Athletics Australia set a qualifying time even lower than the time set by the IAAF.
Finally, officials decided to recognise the consistency of Hunt and Dent and offer them a place on the Aussie team.
“I’m not an Olympian yet,’’ the computer engineer said on the train to his eastern suburbs home last week.
“Only when I’m out there and running; not until August 12.’’
